Karla Philipp |
|
Karla Philipp,
conductor of the String
Ensemble and String Sinfonia, is in
her twenty-third year as an itinerant
string specialist for the Memphis City
Schools. Currently she is the
director of the Ridgeway High
Orchestra and the Ridgeway Elementary
School Orchestra. In addition,
she teaches string classes at Ridgeway
Elementary School. She is also
the master teacher for the University
of Memphis String Project. Ms.
Philipp holds the B.M. in Music
Education from the University of
Arizona, and the M.M. in Double Bass
performance from Memphis State
University (now UM).
An active performer, she has performed
with the Tucson Symphony, the Arizona
Light Opera, the Memphis Symphony, the
Tupelo Symphony, and is currently
Principal Bass of the Jackson, TN.
Symphony.
Ms. Philipp is a 1998 recipient of the
Rotary Award for Teacher Excellence
and is also listed in the 2000 edition
of Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
Ms. Philipp is active in the TN Music
Educators Association, and the West TN
School Band and Orchestra Association.
She is on the faculties of the Rhodes
College Chamber Music Camp, the
American Suzuki Institute at the
University of Wisconsin, Stevens
Point, and the Inner Mountain Suzuki
Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah.
